BVP Baseball (Batter vs Pitcher) app good for
There is certainly an overabundance of sports-related apps in the App Store right now......including baseball-related apps, which happen to be my favorite. In fact, I make it a point of checking the "Sports" section in the App Store at least once a day to see if there are any new baseball-related apps in the store.
When I saw this title, I was excited, yet a little reluctant (having been suckered into purchasing several poor quality baseball apps in the past). Well, I was pleasantly surprised by this title. It is not a full-fledged baseball app in that it is truly "batter vs. pitcher," however, the controls are very fun and easy to work with and the graphics/ball physics are also done very well. The images of the batter and pitcher look like they were "cut and pasted" from an actual image of a real baseball player (which reminds me of this free PC homerun baseball game that I used to play in the past.....cannot remember the name right now, however, I do remember it being quite fun). The throwing and batting motions of the players is very fluid and fun to watch (much more fluid than one might think based upon the images above...). The audio is good.....a little crowd noise, bat noise, etc.....no commentators or anything like that.
The devs decription of the controls is a little misleading in that I initially thought that the batting controls were going to be similar to that of Power Pros (i.e. quickly tap the ball on the screen to hit the ball). Well, what is actually done (I am pleased to say) is that you keep your finger on the screen and a batting cursor appears....as the ball arrives, you move your finger around on the screen (which subsequently moves the players image around), line up the cursor with the ball, then release your finger from the screen to hit the ball. Where you hit the ball and how far depends upon your timing. On the field of play, there are color-coded zones set up with varying degrees of success (i.e. you can hit a homerun, however, the next farthest zone would be a triple, the next farthest would be a double, etc....)
With regard to pitching, you first choose your pitch from a menu that appears on the screen (4seam, 2 seam, curve, etc...) keep your finger on the screen to move the ball where you want it in the strike zone, then let go.....then a circle will form and disappear from around the ball and you have to quickly tap the screen again in order to set your "accuracy." There are descriptions of same, such as "good, bad, amazing," etc... If you get an "amazing" or "excellent" the ball will end up exactly where you wanted it in the zone....if you get a "bad" or "terrible" your ball will not end up exactly in the zone where you want it to and the batter may be able to take advantage of same.
You can edit your team in terms of the name of the team and players....descriptions are given for each players power, control, etc... Same is done for the pitchers in terms of which pitch/pitches are their best.
This is a great time-waster and WELL worth the .99 cents..... I would like to see the devs come out with a harder difficulty level, though (presently only has two difficulty levels). This review is getting way too long, LOL!! Just do yourself a favor and pick this title up......it is well worth it!!
This game is fun but too easy. It needs an expert mode as I was run-ruling teams my 3rd game in. Great time wasting fun. My suggestions are the expert mode and perhaps accelerometer support for pitching and batting... then this game is 5 stars and worth well more than 99 cents.
This is a great app. Ive checked out all the baseball apps and this is by far the best. Graphics are realistic, not cartoonish like a lot of other apps. Pitching and batting mechanics are very life-like. Like in real baseball, mixing pitches and pitching to the corners is necessary for success. Making a mistake near the center of the strike zone will almost always result in a hit or homerun. Also like in real baseball, batting is more challenging, but this keeps scores reasonably realistic. Batting tip: keep the cursor moving around the strike zone while the pitch is on the way, centering and releasing only at the last second. Im hoping more people will discover how good this app is so the developer will continue to support it.
I really enjoyed this game because its so creative and I would really like to see an exibition mode or maybe create a team
